"We do not expect gold medals from every athlete today."
According to Offsideplus.az, these remarks were made to journalists by Parvin Piriyev, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.
Speaking about the upcoming U-17 World Wrestling Championships in Baku, he stated:
"This age group represents a phase of growth and development. What matters most to us is our athletes' fighting spirit, mental resilience, determination to fight until the end, and correct execution of their coaches' instructions.
Hosting this event reflects the state's support for sports and Azerbaijan's strong international reputation in organizing major competitions. That is why everyone wants to visit Azerbaijan, see Baku, and be part of this celebration of wrestling."
Addressing the athletes who will represent Azerbaijan at the tournament, Piriyev added:
"We care not only about the results, but also about the mental well-being, health, and readiness of each athlete. You are an integral part of the Azerbaijani wrestling family. Competing at home is both a great advantage and a major responsibility. Your parents, relatives, and friends will be watching from the stands. We understand that this can create psychological pressure, and I ask the coaching staff to work closely with the athletes on this matter."
The World Championships will take place at the National Gymnastics Arena from July 27 to August 2.
According to the final participant list approved by United World Wrestling (UWW), the prestigious event will feature 663 athletes, 272 coaches, and 64 international referees. In total, over 1,100 guests will travel to Azerbaijan for the tournament.
