"The competition went very well," said Azerbaijan's beach wrestler Jamal Feyziyev (+90 kg) in an interview with Offsideplus.az.
The athlete, who won the fourth stage of the World Series held in Baku, shared his impressions:
"As you know, well-known European and world champions participated in the competition. The organization was at a very high level in terms of event execution, athlete reception, the competition process, and the overall atmosphere. All our sponsors provided great support throughout the event. This created a wonderful environment for both the athletes and the spectators. I would like to express my gratitude to all the organizers and sponsors who contributed.
In my weight category, I faced four-time world champion Mamuka Kordzaya from Georgia. He is a formidable opponent who holds almost all titles in beach wrestling. In that match, I managed to win by sticking to the tactics set by head coach Oyan Nazariani. In the final, I faced Ukrainian Vaja Dayauri and defeated him as well to claim the gold medal. It is a source of great pride to raise the Azerbaijani flag in front of my home crowd after defeating such strong opponents. I dedicate this gold medal to my newborn nephew, David."
Feyziyev also spoke about his future goals:
"My next goal, as promised, is to defend my title at the final stage of the World Series in Greece. A serious preparation process lies ahead, and I will work with even greater determination every day. My biggest dream is to win more world titles and write my name in golden letters in the history of beach wrestling."
It is worth noting that the Azerbaijani men's team finished first in the overall standings with 84 points at the World Series stage in Baku.
