The U-15 European Wrestling Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria, are drawing to a close.
Offsideplus.az reports that on the fourth day of the competition, two more members of the Azerbaijani national team managed to secure a spot on the podium.
Competing in the freestyle wrestling event, Elvin Najafzada (85 kg) faced Russia's Ibrahim Magomedov in the decisive final bout. Trailing 1-4 during the tense and dramatic encounter, our compatriot displayed great resilience to pull off a spectacular comeback. Scoring crucial points in the final seconds, Najafzada clinched a 5-4 victory to be crowned European champion.
In the girls' event, Gulay Khasmammadova (36 kg) had to settle for a silver medal after losing by fall (touched) to another Russian representative, Yelizaveta Kirillova, in the final match.
With these results, the total medal tally for Azerbaijani wrestlers at the continental championship has risen to six. The country's current haul stands at four gold, one silver, and one bronze medal.
