The Women's European Volleyball Championship Group C matches have kicked off in Baku.

Offsideplus.az reports that the Azerbaijan national team faced Portugal in the opening match held at the National Gymnastics Arena. Our team secured a victory in the first game with a score of 3:1 (25-22, 23-25, 27-25, 25-20). The opening ceremony of the tournament took place before the match at 18:15.

Azerbaijan's next opponent will be Spain on August 25.

Led by head coach Faig Garayev, the national team competes in Group C alongside Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Romania. The top four teams from the group will advance to the playoffs.

The matches in Baku will continue until August 28. EuroVolley 2026, which concludes on September 6, is co-hosted by Azerbaijan, Turkey, Sweden, and the Czech Republic.
