Anar Sariyev, head coach of the Azerbaijan U-20 basketball team, has evaluated the preparations of our clubs that will represent the country in European competitions this season for Offsideplus.az:
"In terms of evaluation, to be honest, we have only seen which players the clubs have transferred so far. It is difficult to say anything definitive as I have not watched the teams play.
However, everyone has an equal chance. Success depends on quality transfers, as well as the teams having good training camps and friendly matches. Only after that can they head to European competitions and compete successfully.
As always, 'Sabah' has a very good squad this season. In my opinion, their chances are high. I believe they will once again bring joy to our people and basketball fans this year.
'LANDAU Lions' will compete in the qualifying round of the FIBA Champions League for the first time. I wish them victories. I hope they will qualify for the main stage of the Champions League. Otherwise, I have great faith in head coach Erhan Toker and hope the team will perform well.
Regarding 'Ganja', I cannot express a definite opinion as I do not know which players are in their squad. However, they will also be competing in European competitions for the first time. I wish them the best of luck in bringing joy to both Azerbaijan and Ganja basketball fans.
As for 'Neftchi', they have made good transfers this year with both local and foreign players. They also have a great chance to perform successfully.
I reiterate, the main issue is to have many preparation matches. Players need to adapt and understand each other, as a large part of success depends on this.
I wish all our teams good luck. Hopefully, the results will be pleasing for our basketball and we will achieve even greater successes in the future."
