Twente's head coach John van den Brom expressed his dissatisfaction with his team's performance following their match against Qarabag.
The Dutch specialist commented on the defeat, stating:
"If you are playing at this level — in the UEFA Conference League play-off stage against a very good opponent, you have to be perfect. We were not good today. Several of our players performed below their capabilities. Thanks to those who maintained the level, we were able to stay in the game. In this regard, I know we are capable of playing better than we showed today."
The experienced coach emphasised his team's lack of cutting edge in attack:
"We were in the opponent's half a lot, we made several incursions into the penalty area, but we struggled to create real danger. This is related to the quality displayed at that moment. In the second half, I saw Twente's best period; perhaps we deserved to equalise. However, playing well for only 10 minutes in a 90-minute home play-off match is not enough."
Touching on the return leg to be held in Azerbaijan next week, Van den Brom stated that nothing is over yet:
"If we can show our game in the return match, we can achieve more than we did tonight. We need to play better football. The score is only 0:1. There are always chances in football, and we will fight for that."
