Alexander Plushenko, the son of two-time Olympic figure skating champion Evgeni Plushenko, will represent Azerbaijan in international competitions from now on.

According to Offsideplus.az, citing information released by RIA Novosti, the 13-year-old athlete has been granted sports citizenship of Azerbaijan for a period of five years.

His father, Evgeni Plushenko, emphasized that this transition took place entirely within the framework of the regulations:

"Sasha is 13 years old and he has not been a member of the Russian national team. Since he did not participate in official competitions this season, he has already completed the required quarantine period. He did not take anyone's place; he simply trained at my private academy."

The young figure skater, who is preparing to take to the ice under the Azerbaijani flag, also commented on this new chapter and shared his future plans:

"I accepted sports citizenship of Azerbaijan for a five-year period. My main goal is to worthily represent this country in international tournaments and achieve high results."
