Azerbaijan's U-16 women's basketball team has secured fifth place in the FIBA U-16 European Championship B Division.
According to Offsideplus.az, citing the press service of the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation, the team triumphed over Bosnia and Herzegovina (78:65) and Cyprus (70:58) in the matches for fifth to seventh places.
With two victories out of four matches, the team improved its winning percentage from 16.7% to 50%.
The tournament's top scorer was Viktoriya Ulyanova, who accumulated 68 points (an average of 17 points) across four games. Ulyanova delivered a standout performance against Bosnia and Herzegovina, scoring 34 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Aylin Niftaliyeva led the tournament in rebounds, amassing 54 (an average of 13.5) over four games, and achieved consecutive double-doubles in the last two matches.
Aylin Akbarzade set a new record in the B Division's history with 37 assists (an average of 9.3). She recorded 7 assists against Slovakia, 6 against Switzerland, and 12 assists in each of the games against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Cyprus.
Fifteen-year-old Kalina Kushina finished the tournament with an average of 10.5 points, contributing significantly to the victories with 14 points against Bosnia and Herzegovina and 18 points against Cyprus.
It is noteworthy that the Azerbaijan team had only won one of its six matches in the B Division last year.
