The First Division of the Azerbaijan Chess Championship has concluded.
According to Offsideplus.az, following the results of the competition held at the Republican Chess Center, the chess players who qualified for the Azerbaijan Championship have been determined.
In the men's tournament, which featured 36 players, Umid Aslanov finished at the top of the First Division with 7 points. Alongside him, Ravan Aliyev, Farid Orujov, Kanan Garayev, Shamsi Garakhanov, Ravan Uguzov, Kanan Isbatov, Pasham Alizade and Suat Ibrahimli earned the right to compete in the Azerbaijan Championship by placing in the top nine. Additionally, due to Namig Guliyev's withdrawal from the championship, Allahverdi Hamidov, who finished in 10th place, will also be admitted to the tournament.
In the women's category, which consisted of 18 participants, Lala Huseynova took first place with 8 points. Along with her, Zahra Allahverdi also secured a spot in the national championship.
The competitions were held over 9 rounds according to the Swiss system based on FIDE laws of chess. As per the final results in the First Division, the top 10 men and the top 2 women officially qualified for the Azerbaijan Championship.
The national championship is scheduled to take place from February 6 to 22.
