The U-20 European Championship has kicked off in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia.
According to Offsideplus.az, the Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestling team made a spectacular start on the first day of the competition, with three wrestlers reaching the finals and one athlete still in contention for a bronze medal.
The heroes of the opening day were Emin Javadli, Cavidan Nehmetov, and Orkhan Hajiyev.
Emin Javadli (55 kg): He dominated his matches against representatives from Turkey (5:1), Germany (16:5), and Greece (9:0) to secure his place in the final. He will face Armenia's Edgar Petrosyan for the gold medal.
Cavidan Nehmetov (77 kg): He earned his spot in the final by defeating athletes from Finland (2:0), Russia (8:0), and Turkey (3:1) without conceding a point. His opponent in the decisive match will be Armenia's Samvel Terteryan.
Orkhan Hajiyev (87 kg): He eliminated wrestlers from Germany (9:0), Ukraine (11:9), and Israel (9:0) to secure his place in the gold medal match. Orkhan will compete against Russia's Mikhail Shkarin for the title.
Our heavyweight wrestler Museyi-Kazim Huseyn (130 kg) won his quarter-final match against an Armenian athlete (2:1) but lost in the semi-finals to a representative from Ukraine. He will compete for the bronze medal against Turkey's Uzeyir Bostan tomorrow. Tural Ahmadov, competing at 63 kg, was eliminated in the round of 16 after losing to a Georgian opponent.
