The U-23 European Wrestling Championships have kicked off in Serbia.
According to Offsideplus.az, on the first day of the tournament, freestyle wrestlers competing in the 57 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 79 kg, and 97 kg weight categories took to the mat.
Vasif Bagirov (57 kg), who started his campaign in the quarterfinals, reached the semifinals after pinning French wrestler Rasul Galburayev. He then defeated Georgian Nikoloz Botchorishvili with a score of 6:2. Tomorrow, Bagirov will face Russian Ayanday Ondar in the final.
Musa Agayev (65 kg) eliminated Italian Mattia Bientinesi early (10:0) but was defeated by Belarusian Magomedkhan Magomedkhanov (4:7) in the quarterfinals. Agayev will compete for the bronze medal against Arman Musikyan from Armenia.
Ramik Heybatov (70 kg) defeated Polish wrestler Daniel Kulczynski with a score of 9:4 but fell short against Moldovan Alexandr Gaidarli in the quarterfinals (0:11). Heybatov will face Georgian Goga Otinashvili in the repechage round.
Sabuhi Amiraslanov (79 kg) secured a spot in the semifinals by defeating Belarusian Aleksandr Viarbitski (11:4) and German Marat Kardanov (6:2). Sabuhi also demonstrated his strength against Georgian Giorgi Gogritchiani, winning 4:1. Amiraslanov will face Russian Ismail Khaniev in the gold medal match.
Zafar Aliyev (97 kg) defeated Armenian Gurgen Simonyan 6:2 but was defeated by Ukrainian Ivan Primachenko in the semifinals by the same score. Aliyev will wrestle for the bronze medal against the winner of the match between Davide Cossu (Italy) and Emirhan Kilic (Turkey).
