The U23 World Championship kicked off today in Novi Sad, Serbia.

Offsideplus.az reports that in our national Greco-Roman wrestling team, in the 63 kg. weight category, Ziya Babashov defeated Japanese Miruto Tokuhiga 7:1, Iranian Mohammad Navid 3:1, and Russian Dorji Shungurtsikova (UWW) reached the semifinals based on the first point principle (1:1). Ziya will face Turkish Servet Angi in the semifinals.

In the qualifying round, Davud Mammadov (77 kg.) lost to Hungarian Levente Leva 0:5, and Lachin Veliyev (87 kg.) lost to Iranian Gulamreza Farukhisanjani 0:8.

In the 130 kg. weight category, Aykhan Mardanov defeated Chinese Shuangyu Chen by pinfall and reached the 1/4 finals. However, at this stage, Russian Alexander Melekhov (UWW) lost with a score of 0:9.

It should be noted that the semifinals will start at 20:00 Baku time.
