“We took the field aiming for victory”.
Sumgait captain Sabuhi Abdullazade said this in a statement to Offsideplus.az.
The midfielder shared his thoughts on the final match of the year, in which they lost 1–3 to Sabah:
“Unfortunately, we lost. Perhaps we lacked determination. No one steps onto the field intending to lose. But this is football: there are wins and there are losses.”
Abdullazade noted that Sabah’s victory over Qarabag in the previous round did not cause any loss of motivation within his team:
“It didn’t create any psychological pressure on us. Because we played very well against Qarabag with Sumgayit. In general, we are not afraid of any team. We go into every match aiming to win. Our current position in the league table is also good. However, there are certain shortcomings in some matches. I think we will address these gaps during the winter training camp.”
It should be noted that Sumgayit lost 1–3 to Sabah in the final match of the year. The “City of Youth” representatives are currently fifth in the standings with 27 points.
