The European Championships held in Tirana, Albania, have concluded.

Offsideplus.az reports that following the success of the Greco-Roman team, Azerbaijan's freestyle wrestling national team has also conquered the European peak.

By winning 3 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medal, our team collected 152 points to become European champions for the 6th time. The national team outperformed second-placed Georgia by 58 points, while Armenia finished third with 73 points.

Previously, Azerbaijan was the strongest nation on the continent in this discipline in 2009, 2017, 2022, 2023, and 2025.

Our national team’s medal tally in Albania marks the best result in the last 17 years. The haul of 3 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medals is our highest achievement in freestyle wrestling at the European Championships since 2009.

To recap the results in Tirana, Islam Bazarganov (57 kg), Ali Tsokayev (92 kg), and Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg) were crowned European champions. Turan Bayramov (74 kg) and Arseniy Djioyev (86 kg) secured silver, while Jabrayil Gadjiyev (79 kg) took home the bronze medal.

Thus, as in 2022 and 2025, Azerbaijan achieved a "golden double" by becoming the team champion in both Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling.
