“I dedicate my victory to my family and the people of Azerbaijan”.

This was stated by Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Aykhan Javadov (60 kg) in an interview with Offsideplus.az.

The wrestler, who won a gold medal at the U20 World Championship in Samokov, Bulgaria, evaluated his performance in the tournament:

“The competition went very well for me. Especially, the victory I won over the Armenian opponent in the final was a source of pride. When the match started, I knew that the families of the martyrs were also watching me. That is why I could not lose. However, for a moment I came very close to defeat. Although I was behind in points at the beginning of the match, I was later able to turn the situation in my favor. In general, I was both excited and felt a great responsibility in the match. The main thing is that I was the winner. In addition, the match with Georgian Vakhtang Loluaya in the semifinals was also memorable. We have met him four times so far. I won three times, and Vakhtang won one.”

Javadov said that he intends to continue his successful performance in the next competitions:

“I have become the world champion for the second time. My future goal is to repeat the same result among adults. My main goal is to become the Olympic champion.”

It should be noted that our national Greco-Roman wrestling team won 1 set of medals in the prestigious competition. Our team, which scored 90 points, became the third in the world in the team standings.
