Palina Kaspiarovich, a member of Azerbaijan's national women's sabre team, has won a bronze medal at the World Cup stage held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Offsideplus.az informs that the athlete, who finished the group stage with five victories, secured the bronze medal by advancing to the semi-finals.
In the playoffs, Kaspiarovich defeated Uzbekistan's Samira Shokirova (15:6), Venezuela’s Katherine Paredes Torres (15:11), Ukraine's Alina Komashchuk (15:14), and Spain’s Araceli Navarro (15:13) to reach the top eight. In the quarter-final match, she overcame Anastasia Shorokhova, competing under a neutral flag, with a score of 15:10.
In the battle for a spot in the final, Palina Kaspiarovich finished third after a 6-15 loss to Bulgarian fencer Yoana Ilieva.
Anna Bashta, competing in an international tournament for the first time following a long-term injury, exited the competition in the main stage. Meanwhile, Sabina Karimova and Zarifa Huseynova concluded their performances in the preliminary playoff rounds.
Tomorrow, our women's sabre team will face the USA in a match to determine which side advances to the top eight of the team competition.
