The Sheki Open 2026 International Chess Festival, the second event of the Azerbaijan Chess Tour, has concluded.
Offsideplus.az reports, citing the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, that Azerbaijani chess player Vugar Rasulov claimed first place in Tournament A of the 9-round competition, scoring 7 points.
Murad Ibrahimli, who finished with the same number of points, had to settle for second place due to tie-break regulations. Another domestic representative, Islam Hajialiyev, rounded out the top three with 6.5 points.
In Tournament B, Emin Ganjaliyev, Mahammad Valiyev (Kazakhstan), and Vusal Ahmadov all scored 7 points. According to the tie-break criteria, Emin Ganjaliyev was crowned the winner of Tournament B. Kazakhstan's Mahammad Valiyev and Azerbaijani player Vusal Ahmadov shared the second and third places.
In Tournament C, Mahammadali Allahverdiyev secured the top spot with 8 points. Yusif Guliyev finished the tournament in second place, while Fateh Mirza came in third.
Rapid and blitz competitions were also organized as part of the festival. Islam Hajialiyev emerged victorious in the rapid tournament, while Hungarian representative Sanan Sjugirov took first place in the blitz event.
It is worth noting that the Sheki Open 2026 is the second tournament of the Azerbaijan Chess Tour project, which is jointly organized by the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan. More than 400 chess players from 10 countries competed in the event.
The next tournament in the Azerbaijan Chess Tour project will take place in Lankaran.
