The Azerbaijani national football team played its first match in 2025 today.

Offsideplus.az reports that for the first time in the history of the team led by Fernando Santos, they held a friendly match with the Haitian national team.

One of the significant moments was related to the venue of the match. Thus, our team competed in Sumgayit for the first time.

This was F. Santos' 7th match as the head coach of the Azerbaijani national team. The Portuguese coach had not given our team a victory before this match: 1 draw, 5 defeats.

Unfortunately, Santos' players again tasted the bitterness of defeat.

The situation in Haiti was different. Our guests from Central America had won the last 8 matches in a row. The Haitian national team, which rarely holds friendly matches, last played such a match in October 2023. The 3-0 score in Sumgayit made it the 9th consecutive victory.
