The Azerbaijani men's national boxing team has achieved a historic success at the World Cup held in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil.

Offsideplus.az reports that in a competition featuring 400 athletes from 49 countries, our national team won 3 gold and 1 bronze medal for the first time, finishing second in the overall team standings. Participating with only 6 boxers, our team was only surpassed by the hosts, Brazil, based on the number of silver medals.

Our boxers delivered confident performances in the final bouts. Subhan Mamedov (50 kg) defeated his Moroccan opponent Issam Bensayar with a score of 5:0 to climb the highest step of the podium. In the heavyweight category (+90 kg), Mahammad Abdullayev secured the gold medal by defeating Davit Chaloyan of Armenia (3:2) in the decisive match. The third gold medal was claimed by Saidjamshid Jafarov (75 kg) during the first session of the finals. With Nabi Isgandarov's (70 kg) bronze medal, the team brought its total medal count to four.

The boxers are scheduled to return home on April 29.
