Our U-15 national team secured their third victory in the U-15 World Championship, defeating Israel 3-1.
After the match, the team's head coach Famil Khalilov shared his thoughts with Offsideplus.az:
- Can you share your thoughts on the match?
- Our team achieved a deserved victory. After yesterday's defeat, they did not lose morale, prepared better for the game, and managed to bounce back. The kids were able to handle the pressure. This is one of the factors that makes us happy.
- How do you assess your team's potential?
- At this stage, it is highly likely that the Australian team will finish the group as leaders. Both we and Haiti have 9 points. We are competing for second place. In this regard, the significance of tonight's match is great. With any draw or victory, we will finish the group in second place - that is our focus. Once the composition of Group B is known, we will continue our fight in that group. We will have 5 matches there as well.
- When the first half ended, you took off the key players. Was this to protect them, or did you want to give other players a chance?
- It can be said both ways. We were thinking of balancing our actions for tonight's match, and we also want to give the other kids equal playing time.
- Would you have made that decision if the score was not 3-0?
- Of course, we always think about the development of the players. We want all 14 players with us to develop. We strive to ensure they all get equal playing opportunities while they are with us.
- How do you assess our chances?
- Our chances will be clearer after tonight's match. Because which group we fall into is very important. I believe we will finish this group in second place. I hope so. After analysing the teams that finish in second place, we can think about the next stage. Our main goal is to focus on tonight's match.
- Is there a favourite in the championship?
- I wouldn't say there is a specific favourite. Because surprise teams also have a chance to become champions.
