Eldeniz Azizli, the Azerbaijani wrestler who became a champion for the fifth time at the world championship held in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, shared his impressions and answered questions about his career.
The experienced wrestler spoke about his determined struggle and tactical plan:
"Becoming a five-time world champion sounds easy in words. I have been competing for 27-28 years now. When my semi-final and final opponents were born, I was already a European champion. This year, we worked hard, fought, and thankfully, I became the champion. I was third in the last world championship, but that result did not satisfy me.
As for whether I will continue my career, it is difficult to say anything at this point. We will announce the final decision after discussions with my personal coach, the federation, and the coaching staff.
My toughest matches were in the semi-finals and finals. We knew this while analysing our opponents in Baku. Everything went according to plan. When I stepped onto the mat, I believed I would become the champion. After my opponent was given passivity, I realised I had a 70-80 percent chance of winning. My tactic was to score the first point."
