"Overall, I view the team's performance very positively."
Offsideplus.az reports that these words were stated by Rafig Huseynov, the Greco-Roman wrestling coordinator at the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation (AWF).
He evaluated the performance of the Azerbaijani Greco-Roman national team at the European Championships held in Tirana, Albania: "I am glad that the team defended its title and became European champions once again. Honestly, there were moments of disappointment. I expected gold medals from Sanan Suleymanov and world champion Nihat Mammadli. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. This is wrestling—you can be a champion one day and lose the next; it’s very natural. The key is not to lose heart. Our athletes should know that we are always by their side, in both victory and defeat. We will always support them."
The veteran wrestler also commented on Hasrat Jafarov breaking his record by becoming a four-time European champion: "Regarding Hasrat Jafarov, I can say that he joined the senior training camps when he was just transitioning from the youth level. Hasrat was with us during our 2020 camp. Observing his work ethic, I saw a very hardworking athlete who respects his craft. No one predicted Hasrat would become a four-time European champion. No matter how strong an athlete you are, sports luck also plays a major role in such cases. But Hasrat proved it and showed that 'I am truly strong'."
It should be noted that at the end of the competition, the national team secured the European title with a total of 133 points.
