Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Nihat Mammadli (60 kg) has shared his future goals and reflections on his recent victory at the ranking tournament in Tirana, Albania.
Offsideplus.az reports that the athlete told the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation that his championship in Tirana served as a major boost ahead of the European Championship:
"We prepared very well for the competition. Since I hadn’t competed for a long time, the weight-cutting process was smooth, and I felt great on the mat. There were strong opponents, but it seems I was better prepared. I defeated all my rivals to become the champion."
Injuries are in the past Having faced several health issues last year, the wrestler emphasized that he has now fully recovered: "Last year, I suffered a broken rib and had problems with my eyes. Thankfully, I am fully ready now. I have no injuries or pain."
Focus on European and World titles Mammadli outlined his upcoming targets as follows: "The European Championship is ahead of us. The goal is clear: to become the champion. I believe in my strength and hope to become a three-time European champion. I will do my best to defend my title. After that, my focus will shift to the World Championship, where I have yet to win a medal in the 60 kg category."
It should be noted that Nihat Mammadli climbed to the top of the podium in Tirana by defeating all of his opponents in the ranking tournament.
