“The result achieved is the result of that hard work.”
This was stated by Ulvi Ganizade, a two-time world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, in a statement to Offsideplus.az.
The athlete, who competed in the 72 kg weight category, assessed his performance at the World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb:
“The preparation for the competition was at a high level. We had training camps both abroad and in the country. The main thing is that the hardships endured did not go unnoticed. Both the coaches and the spectators had great confidence in me. Thankfully, I was able to justify the trust shown.
Overall, the competition went well. The most difficult match was with the French opponent Ibrahim Ganem in the final. It was the third time I had faced him. I came out on top in all three matches. I do not want to say who I dedicated the victory to.”
Ganizadeh also spoke about his next goals:
“The next goal is to achieve a successful result at the European Championship, which will take place in seven months. I want to become a three-time world champion. I hope I will be able to achieve this goal. I am not thinking about changing weight at the moment. Now I just want to rest a lot.”
It should be noted that the national team took second place in the world championship with 89 points. Our wrestlers won 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals at the world championship. Ulvi Ganizadeh (72 kg) won gold, Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg) won silver, Eldeniz Azizli (55 kg) and Murad Ahmadiyev (92 kg) won bronze medals.
