Azerbaijani boxer Sübhan Mamedov has been crowned European champion.

According to information from the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation reported by Offsideplus.az, the member of the national team, competing in the 50 kg weight category, secured this title in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.

Mamedov defeated Bair Batlayev from Russia in the final, who is also the U-23 European champion.

Winning all three rounds in his favour, Mamedov triumphed with a score of 4:1 (30:27, 29:28, 28:29, 30:27, 29:28), earning the gold medal at the European Championship and playing the Azerbaijani anthem in Sofia.

Earlier, Saidjamshid Jafarov (75 kg) also reached the final. The world championship medalist secured victory in the semi-final against Kalum Maykin from England with a score of 4:1 (28:29, 30:27, 30:27, 29:28, 29:28). Jafarov will face Ismayil Mutsolgov from Russia in the decisive match tomorrow.

Amin Mammadzada (55 kg) finished the European Championship with a bronze medal.

It is noteworthy that a day earlier, Mohammad Abdullayev (+90 kg) also concluded the competition with a bronze medal. On September 25, the final day of the championship, alongside Jafarov, Nabi Iskenderov (70 kg) will also compete in the final.
