The former player of the Azerbaijan national team and current midfielder of Shahdag Qusar, competing in the Second Division, Rahid Amirghuliyev, gave an interview to Offsideplus.az:
• There are four rounds left until the end of the Second Division season. How is the leader Shahdag Qusar progressing on the road to the championship?
• Everything is going well in our team. We have already secured promotion to the First Division a few rounds ago. Nevertheless, we want to finish the season as champions. In the upcoming round, we will play our most important match against Shafa. If we win, we can say that the fate of the gold medals will be 90% decided. We are expecting a tough away match. Shafa is a good team. I believe we will achieve the result we want in the game.
• The next question is about Shafa. Their management has set the ticket price for the match against Shahdag Qusar at 10 manats. Were you expecting such a decision?
• Honestly, I expected that the entrance would be ticketed because when Shafa visited us, entry was with tickets as well. If I’m not mistaken, besides Shafa, only our match against Hypers Guba had paid entry among our home games this season. I thought the ticket prices for the match against Shafa would be around 2-3 manats. However, 10 manats for a ticket in the Second Division is quite expensive by Azerbaijan’s standards. In any case, it is Shafa’s management’s decision. Our job is to step onto the field and play football.
• Some say this move was made to put psychological pressure on Shahdag Qusar before a crucial match and to reduce the number of your supporters in the stands. Do you think Shafa can affect you psychologically?
• It will have no effect on our game. No matter how expensive the tickets are, our fans will come to the stadium. Of course, fan support is crucial. The more fans we have in the stands, the higher our motivation will be. Our supporters have not left us alone this season. Although we play our matches not in our home city Qusar but in Shamakhi, our fans have supported us every round.
• Have you made any decisions about your career? You will turn 36 this year. Are you planning to continue playing next season?
• I haven’t made a final decision yet. I’m waiting for the end of the championship. Briefly, I can say that I want to continue my career. However, it will depend on how I feel and in what condition I finish the season.
• Unlike the Second Division, the level of the First Division is much higher. Are you physically ready for that competition and challenge?
• Of course, it will be harder to play in the First Division. The teams are stronger, and the competition is completely different. But I believe I am ready for it. I am confident that I can play at that level and will do my best to help the team succeed.
