The head coach of the Azerbaijani national team, Fernando Santos, answered journalists' questions at a press conference after the friendly match with Haiti (0:3).

- Yesterday at the pre-match press conference you said that the starting lineup was known. If you had dreamed that you would lose 0:3, would you still use this starting lineup?

- Of course, if I had seen in my dream that we would lose, I would have changed the squad. I think that today the team came out to lose. It was not playing for victory. Of course, I was dissatisfied with the team's game. In the second half, we brought in offensive players. At the same time, we increased the intensity by making changes in the midfield. At the beginning of the second half, the game was more balanced. But after conceding the second goal, the team lost hope. Although we created more episodes after Khayal Aliyev and Sabuhi Abdullazade entered the field, we could not evaluate it.

- We have seen Elvin Jafarguliyev receive a red card many times in official matches. This time he was sent off in a friendly match. He also received 2 yellow cards in a row. As an experienced specialist, how do you evaluate this action of the football player?

- I spoke to Elvin himself about this. I said that this is unacceptable. We cannot condemn the player for this alone.

- In your previous statements, you stated that we are building the national team of the future. Ozan Can Kökçü is Turkish, Shahruddin Mahammadaliyev, Badavi Huseynov are old, and Alexey Isayev is Russian. How can we build the national team of the future with these players?

- Bedavi is one of our best footballers. If you want the team to develop, you need experienced players. Nariman Abdullazade is 20, Musa Gurbanli is 22, Sabuhi Abdullazade is 22, Khayal Aliyev is 20, and Rahman Dashdemirov is 25.  

- We are against playing non-Azerbaijani footballers...

- I repeat, Badawi and Shahruddin are experienced. When young people come to the national team, they should receive support from experienced ones. There are many football players who have "nationalized" in world experience. Pepe played in Portugal until he was 40, but he is Brazilian by nationality. If a person approaches the national team with love, there is no problem

- Will there be a radical change in the game against Belarus in three days? Will we see Shahin Shahniyarov, who was called up from the First League, in the squad?

- There will be a change in the next game. Of course, if the next match goes the way we want, we will give Shahin a chance. He is a talented football player. It is important for him to feel the atmosphere of the national team. Strategically, my task is to take different steps. I have all the responsibility to make changes in the next game.

- When the Haitian national team scored the third goal, our fans cheered the opponent. Will the opposing fans ever cheer us when the Azerbaijani team scores? And will Santos be the head coach at that time?

- Such things happen in football. They expect the national team to win. We have to work on this to change things for the better. 

- You have been working as the head coach of our national team for about a year. What do you think has changed during this time? When will the failure end?

- I literally believe that it is possible to make changes in the game of the Azerbaijani national team. In accordance with the potential of the players, I said that we can play attacking football. I think it will be better if we play on the counterattack. As a coach, I have to make changes. At first, I thought that with these players we could play more offensively. Now I see that it would be better to sit in defense and go on the counterattack. In the next match, there will be changes in both the system and the squad.
