The XI round of the Misli Premier League has been named the "Victory Round" in honour of the 6th anniversary of Victory.
On the first match day, Qarabag hosted Turan Tovuz, while Neftchi faced Kəpəz.
Turan Tovuz secured three points with a 1-0 victory.
The day's main surprise occurred at Azersun Arena, where the Tovuz club won 1-0 away from home. The only goal was scored by Roderik Miller in the 80th minute. It cannot be said that there were numerous goal-scoring opportunities during the match. The renewal process at Qarabag is taking longer than expected, with head coach Gurban Gurbanov admitting he did not foresee this.
Turan Tovuz, having emerged from a tough series of matches against Neftchi, Sabah, and Qarabag with 7 points, has temporarily climbed to 2nd place. If the team maintains its stability in the second round and does not drop points against the underdogs, it can confidently be said that four teams will be in the championship race.
The derby of the oldest teams
While the tournament table reflects the results, it does not always capture the character of the match. The Neftchi vs. Kəpəz fixture is one such encounter. Although the leaders won, the Ganja team left the pitch with their heads held high.
Firstly, Kəpəz came to Baku for one of the toughest away matches of the season against the leaders. The Ganja representatives managed to keep the game balanced until the 67th minute. It is no coincidence that the leader's attacking line was silenced for such a long time; it is a testament to a well-organised defence and team discipline.
Secondly, it is important to remember the character of the match. Only one player from each team received a yellow card: Kəpəz's Shakir Seyidov was booked in the 20th minute. This indicates that the Ganja side attempted to stop their opponents not with rough tackles, but through disciplined and clean play. Such a style of play demonstrates the team's ability to manage emotions and showcases high professionalism and experience. Neftchi, for their part, secured a vital three points. The result was what mattered, and the "white-blacks" managed to maintain their leadership.
