The draw for the 2026/27 Azerbaijan Cup has taken place.

Azər Memmedov, head coach of Kəpəz PFK, spoke to the club's official website about the draw.

- Today, in the draw for the new season of the country’s cup, Kəpəz has been matched against Baku Sportinq in the second qualifying round. How do you assess the outcome of the draw for the "yellow-blues"?

- Regardless of the draw's outcome, we will strive to win against any opponent. In the cup competition, we will give some players, especially young ones, the chance to play. Our intention is to progress as far as we can in this tournament.

- Many predict that your team will easily overcome Baku Sportinq. They believe that the 1/8 final will be a match-up between Turan and Kəpəz. Do you think it is possible to advance past the 1/8 stage?

- We treat all opponents with respect. First, we need to succeed in the second qualifying round. Compared to previous years, the level of the First League has improved. We have good teams in that league. A strong competition is taking place. Baku Sportinq finished fourth in the First League last season. I believe Baku Sportinq is not an easy opponent. Of course, we will go onto the pitch to win. We will try to defeat our opponent and advance to the 1/8 final.

- How did you react to the news that the cup final will be held in Ganja?

- This news made me very happy. I think holding the cup final match in Ganja is the most correct and best decision. The residents of Ganja love football very much. The fans from Ganja will add colour to the cup final, and there will be a real football festival in our city.

- Ganja fans have another wish: to see Kəpəz in the cup final. How do you think it is possible to turn this wish into reality?

- Of course, I also share the wish of the Ganja fans. I would love for one of the teams that qualifies for the final in our hometown, on our home ground, to be Kəpəz. For this, we will spare no effort and will give our maximum strength. God willing, time will show what we can achieve.
