Azerbaijani chess player Khagan Ahmed commented on the game in which he won against Hikaru Nakamura (USA, 2804), who is second in the FIDE rating, at the World Team Blitz Championship in London.
Offsideplus.az reports that our 13-year-old compatriot with a rapid rating of 2290 shared his impressions in a statement to the official website of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation.
“The World Team Championship was remembered for me with many unforgettable moments. When it became known the day before that I would play against Hikaru Nakamura, who is second in the world rating, the whole team started to get excited. The fight with Nakamura started off a bit exciting. The opponent made some mistakes. Then Hikaru tried to find a way out of the situation for a draw. There was some pressure in the game. I must admit that the victory made me happy. It was my first victory over such a strong chess player in my career. I hope it will be permanent. Unfortunately, the “Turkish Airlines” team I played for did not qualify for the 1/8 finals,” Kh. Ahmed emphasized.
He expressed his gratitude to his teammates in London: "I would like to thank Captain Ozgur Bey and the chess players I played with. I highly appreciate the results of our team, which was formed from young chess players. We made a good impression with the results we achieved at the World Championship."
Kh.Ahmed also specifically mentioned the support of Azerbaijani champion Rauf Mammadov: "I would like to say thank you very much to everyone who congratulated me after the game with Nakamura. It was nice to see Azerbaijani chess player Rauf Mammadov, who played for another team in London, among those watching the game. Rauf Mammadov was the first to congratulate me after the game with Nakamura. Therefore, I would like to say thank you very much to the Azerbaijani champion."
