"Neftchi" secured an 80-67 victory against Parnu in the qualifying round of the FIBA Europe Cup held yesterday.

Ferec Aliyev, the executive director of Neftchi, spoke to Offsideplus.az:

– Compared to last season, there have been significant changes within the team. How would you assess the preparation process?

– As you know, there have been many changes since last season. Changes occurred in the technical staff, coaching team, and among the players. We have had two training camps. The first camp took place in Ganja, and the second in Izmir. We played two friendly matches. Our athletes competed well against strong clubs. This was good preparation for us ahead of the Europe Cup games.

– What goals have been set for this season?

– Our goal is definitely to qualify for the Europe Cup. Last year, we faced some shortcomings in advancing from the playoff stage. We hope to achieve that this year. The format has changed as well. While there were 4 teams in the group last year, this year there will be 6. However, we are focused on winning all our matches.

– So the main goal is not just the Europe Cup...

– Not only the Europe Cup, but we are also focusing on the championship. Neftchi is a club that aims to win, whether in the cup or the championship. We are determined to win in both tournaments. An exciting championship awaits us.

– Four clubs from Azerbaijan are competing in European competitions. What can you say about that?

– Yes, for the first time in history, four clubs from Azerbaijan are competing in European competitions. We wish success to each club and support them all. I hope we will have an interesting championship ahead.

– How was the selection process for forming the team?

– The selection was made by the head coach, involving both local and foreign players. Those who were chosen are here today.

– What would you like to say about the fans?

– First of all, I want to thank them. They are always by our side. Whether in European competitions, the cup, or the championship, they are always with us. I do not see the fans as separate from the team. They are part of the Neftchi family. I hope the Neftchi family will not be disappointed this season.
