These words were shared with Offsideplus.az by Rasul Chunayev, Olympic medalist, World Champion, and winner of both the Universiade and the first European Games in Greco-Roman wrestling.

The veteran athlete spoke about his new appointment at the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation: “In the past, I represented our country and federation as an athlete. Today, it is an honor for me to serve in the same field as a specialist. We plan to work more extensively with the regions. Our primary goals will be increasing the number of gyms in the provinces, organizing wrestling competitions, and bringing this sport to a wider audience.”

Chunayev emphasized that there is significant potential among the younger generation of wrestlers: “To date, we have implemented several projects involving teenagers and youth as part of my public activities. Wrestling is our national sport and has always been loved by our people. High-level young talents are emerging in our country, and we have plenty of potential. Increasing the number of wrestling halls in the regions is crucial for boosting the popularity of the sport. I will do my best to live up to the trust placed in me by the Wrestling Federation.”

It should be noted that Rasul Chunayev has been appointed as a specialist in the Department for Work with Regional Branches at the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.
