The opening ceremony of the Azerbaijan Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling Championship took place today.

According to Offsideplus.az, the event began with the performance of the national anthem. During the official part of the ceremony, speeches were delivered by Chingiz Huseynzade (Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee) , Farid Gayibov (Minister of Youth and Sports), Namig Aliyev (UWW Bureau Member and Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation). Parvin Piriyev (General Secretary of the Federation).

The speakers emphasized that the national championship is a crucial milestone for every wrestler and discussed the ongoing efforts to develop the sport in the country, concluding with well-wishes for the participants.

The official ceremony was followed by an artistic segment featuring engaging shows and dance performances. Following the ceremony, legendary Azerbaijani wrestlers who have recently retired—Haji Aliyev, Rafig Huseynov, Maria Stadnik, Rasul Chunayev, and Taleh Mammadov—were honored by Olympic champions and AWF Vice-Presidents Namig Abdullayev and Farid Mansurov.

The day concluded with the evening session, featuring the most exciting part of the competition—the final bouts.
