On October 11-12, the “Swiss Days” event was held on Baku Boulevard.

At the event organized by the Embassy of Switzerland in Azerbaijan in cooperation with the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation (AWF), Gian Odermatt, Karim Leuppi, Andrin Poltera and Daniel Bösch, who practice the traditional “Schwingen” wrestling style of this country, held a belt with our national wrestlers.

The musical and entertaining ceremony, which took place as part of the exchange of experience, aroused great interest among the audience. The Ambassador of Switzerland to our country, Thomas Stäli, and the Secretary General of the AWF, Parvin Piriyev, as well as other officials of the federation, made speeches and noted that this action made a great contribution to the sharing of techniques, traditions and values of athletes from both countries, strengthening international sports relations and promoting mutual understanding through the universal language of wrestling. Such initiatives bring wrestling closer to people, create cordial relations between our famous athletes and local people, and encourage young people to take up sports. In the future, it is planned to organize joint training camps for the teams of the two countries and strengthen cooperation in this sport.

It should be noted that "Schwingen" is a folk wrestling style held on sawdust (wood shavings) and is considered one of the most famous and symbolic national sports of Switzerland.
