"I had many offers — I received inquiries from other clubs as well as from different countries through managers," Azerbaijan national team player Nigar Mirzaliyeva told Offsideplus.az.
The footballer, who recently transferred to the German club Hamburg, spoke about her move: "When I was told about the offer from Hamburg, I thought for a while; it was difficult to make a decision. I was at Zenit at the time, and leaving wasn't easy for me. Later, after consulting with my coaches and family, I decided that this step would be the right and most beautiful move for both my career and my country. So, I came to Hamburg, and I don't regret it at all — I am very happy. The team, the coaching staff, and the girls are all wonderful. I believe the path to success leads through Hamburg."
The 23-year-old footballer stated that along with joy, she feels a great sense of responsibility: "Being the first Azerbaijani female footballer to transfer to the Bundesliga is a great honor and achievement for me. I am very happy. The responsibility is truly immense because currently, the coaching staff, my teammates, and everyone’s attention is on me. I am representing my country and Azerbaijani women's football here — which is a huge responsibility in itself. I will strive to be recognized in the Bundesliga through my name and my performance. My goal is to play in even stronger countries and high-level leagues."
It should be noted that Mirzaliyeva signed a 2.5-year contract with the German side. Competing in the Bundesliga, Hamburg currently sits in 13th place among 14 teams with 7 points.
