Neftchi PFC has officially parted ways with head coach Samir Abasov.
According to Offsideplus.az, a meeting took place today between the club’s management and Abasov to discuss the team’s performance in the current season.
The club stated that since signing his contract in October of last year, Abasov had received full support from the management, including complete authority over transfers and squad building. All 14 transfers conducted during the offseason and the season were made with his approval, and decisions regarding departing players were also under his jurisdiction.
When his contract was signed, the main objectives were to implement creative and attacking football and achieve the highest possible results in all competitions. However, after 12 league rounds, the team’s progress and league standing were unsatisfactory, with only three victories in 12 matches. The recent loss to Imishli was seen as the season’s low point.
The club, recognizing Abasov’s contributions as both a player and a coach, asked him to resign as a matter of professional ethics. Abasov disagreed, claiming that the results were not poor and that the setbacks were due to external factors. He refused to resign and stated he would seek full compensation if the club terminated his contract unilaterally.
Considering these circumstances, Neftçi has dismissed Samir Abasov and thanked him for his service, wishing him success in his future career.
Meanwhile, the search for a new head coach continues. Sanan Qurbanov has been tasked with preparing the team for their upcoming match against Turan Tovuz on November 28.
