Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has commented on the battle for victory against Mercedes driver George Russell.

According to Offsideplus.az, the Dutch driver finished second in the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, losing to his rival by just 0.196 seconds:

"It was a very intense race. I drove most of the distance on the wrong tyres, as the medium tyres unfortunately didn’t work as many had hoped. However, once I switched to the soft tyres, it was clear how quickly George and I pulled away from the others.

It was fun for me. I had to attack at the limit. A gap of one second, 1.1 seconds – it remained almost the same throughout the entire stint. So everything went great, I really enjoyed it.

I think the battle on the main straight became so close only because George suffered turbo lag exiting Turn 15 due to the yellow flags. Realistically, the gap would have been about one second, as it was throughout the stint", said the four-time Formula 1 champion.
