Alpine driver Franco Colapinto has attributed the wave of online abuse he received following their collision at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix to comments made by McLaren's Lando Norris, who had publicly called for the Argentine driver to be disqualified.
Colapinto expressed that Norris went too far in his reaction:
"He went too far, that's clear. He is actually one of the main drivers who speaks out against social media hate. We need to be careful about the message we send to the fans, and a champion driver especially shouldn't react like that, especially in the heat of the moment. For instance, when a similar incident happened at the Austrian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen didn't act that way towards Kimi Antonelli and immediately accepted his apology."
The Argentine driver added that the issue between them has since been resolved:
"They are obviously different champions, but these kinds of things should be avoided. Either way, Lando realized his mistake and apologized to me. I also apologized for taking him out of the race, so everything is fine now."
