On August 5, a meeting of the Organising Committee was held regarding the hosting of the U-20 Men's World Cup in Azerbaijan in 2027.

According to Offsideplus.az, considering that the organisation of the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival was also entrusted to the same Organising Committee by a decree from the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated July 27, 2026, the meeting initially discussed the current state of preparations for the aforementioned event and the tasks ahead.

Samir Sharifov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chairman of the Organising Committee, opened the meeting and noted that the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival will take place in Azerbaijan from October 22 to 31, 2026. The assignment of such a prestigious and large-scale international sporting event to our country, which will be held for the first time in the history of world football, is a further manifestation of the high trust shown to Azerbaijan. This trust is a logical result of the continuous attention and support demonstrated by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, towards the development of sports, the high-level organisation of international sporting events, and the strengthening of our country's position in the global sports arena.

It was also noted that representatives from over 175 countries, each consisting of 20 members, are expected to participate in the event. The main aim of this Youth Competition, which will be held under the FIFA flag for the first time, is to ensure the development of talents at the highest international level.

The meeting discussed the readiness of sports facilities for the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival, the progress of construction and infrastructure works, as well as other organisational matters.

Subsequently, the preparation issues for the FIFA World Cup for men under 20 years old, to be held in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in 2027, were reviewed. It was noted that 24 national teams will participate in the tournament. Ongoing cooperation and discussions with the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan, FIFA, and the Uzbekistan Football Federation are focused on determining the cities where the opening and final matches, as well as other games, will be held.

Organisational matters related to the FIFA U-20 World Cup were discussed in detail during the meeting.

To ensure the timely and high-quality execution of the tasks arising from the relevant decrees of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, appropriate instructions were given to the relevant state bodies. Specific tasks were identified to strengthen inter-agency coordination regarding both international events and to ensure the operational resolution of organisational issues.
