The 61st WKF European Karate Championship, held in Frankfurt, Germany from May 20-24, has concluded, featuring 586 karatekas from 50 countries.
Offsideplus.az reports that the championship was highly successful for Azerbaijan. Female karateka Madina Sadigova (55 kg) won a gold medal, making history as Azerbaijan’s first-ever female senior European champion under the WKF. Irina Zaretska (68 kg) secured a bronze medal, while the female kumite team—consisting of Madina Sadigova, Irina Zaretska, Gulay Orucova, and Aysu Aliyeva—also claimed bronze.
Additionally, para-karate athletes Vidadi Khaligov, Farrukh Gaybaliyev, and Aysel Ahmadli each earned bronze medals. With this performance, Azerbaijan finished 6th in the overall medal standings.
During the event, the President of the Azerbaijan Karate Federation, Ulvi Guliyev, held productive meetings with WKF President Antonio Espinos and world-renowned Japanese karate master Shihan Kagawa to discuss future cooperation and the development of the sport.
