Joy-Lance Mickels, the forward for Sabah, spoke to journalists following their UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund.

Offsideplus.az presents the interview:

– How would you assess the match?

– After scoring in the first half, we had numerous goal opportunities. I believe we were the better side even until half-time. But football is a results game. Dortmund scored another goal, and we couldn't find the net for a second time. In the second half, we tried to play like we did in the last 25 minutes of the first half, to push forward, but we couldn't manage it. We know Dortmund has the qualities to prevent the game from continuing in that manner. Overall, we are disappointed. We could have played better, no doubt about that. Now we need to improve ourselves in the upcoming match against Viking. I think we still played well. After all, the opponent was Borussia Dortmund. Losing only 1-2 gives us extra motivation for the upcoming matches. We hope to earn points against Viking.

– How was it to see so many German fans in Baku?

– I knew that German fans are the best. Everyone in the world knows that. It was very special and nice to see them supporting the Dortmund players.

– What does it feel like to play against a German representative in the Champions League?

– It feels amazing. I am a Manchester United fan, but I also support German teams. This is my home country. I was born in Germany. Therefore, it is very nice to play against a German team.

– You faced Manchester United in the first match and were eagerly anticipating that game. Now you have played against a German representative. Can you compare these two encounters?

– I can talk about our performance. I think we are improving from match to match. Perhaps the match against Manchester United came a bit too early for us. But now you saw that we played very well against Borussia. We are getting better, but we need to start earning points. Last week we won against Slavia, but it is disappointing to think we could have played better today.

– You have upcoming matches against Viking and Barcelona. What do you think about the Catalan team?

– First, we will face Viking. I am not thinking about Barcelona right now. We know they are one of the best teams in the world with strong players. But our next opponent is Viking.

– You will face Qarabag this weekend. How will you prepare for this match?

– We want to deliver our best performances. Now we will face Qarabag. I know this match is very special for you as well. In the Sabah vs Qarabag match, we will see high-quality football on the pitch again. I am looking forward to this match because these are the kinds of games you want to play in. We will prepare very well for the game. We have enough time to recover. It will be an interesting encounter. Moreover, we will be playing in our new stadium, which is also nice.
