Head coach Rashad Sadygov shared his thoughts following the return leg after Zira were eliminated by Estonian side Paide in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League.
According to Offsideplus.az, the experienced specialist stated that failing to capitalize on countless goalscoring opportunities led to a deeply disappointing outcome for the team:
"Naturally, it is very difficult for us to talk at length about the match. It was a disappointing result, and we failed to advance. Everything was clear for all to see: an early goal and numerous chances... We created so many opportunities that they could have easily lasted for three or four matches. Unfortunately, we just could not convert them. The woodwork, the goalkeeper, and the defenders stood in our way — it felt as if the ball simply refused to go into the net. In such situations, you often pay the price, and that is exactly what happened today. The flow of the game was already signaling that we would not be able to score and that the opponent would be the one going through.
I congratulate the opponent and wish them success in their upcoming matches. As for us, we are deeply disappointed. Based on both legs, we were the side that deserved to advance. Regrettably, however, we could not turn our dominant play and generated chances into the desired result."
It is worth noting that Zira lost the first leg 0-1 away to Paide and bade farewell to European competitions following a 1-1 draw in the return leg held in Sumgait.
