According to the Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation (AAAF) website, the 66-year-old specialist, died unexpectedly. The cause of his death was not disclosed.
It should be noted that Gadir Babayev was a master of sports of the USSR, multiple champion of Azerbaijan in weightlifting, prize-winner and winner of international tournaments. He was awarded the titles of "Honorary Physical Education and Sports Worker" and "Honored Coach" of the Republic of Azerbaijan for his achievements in the field of sports.
Babayev, a member of the AAAF Board of Judges, was awarded the Honorary Decree of the National Olympic Committee by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for his special services in the development of sports in Azerbaijan.
