The traditional international chess tournament UzChess Cup has kicked off in Uzbekistan.
According to Offsideplus.az, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, a member of the Azerbaijani national team, is competing in the elite Masters division. In the first round, our chess player defeated India's Vidit Santosh Gujrathi, earning his first point of the tournament.
It is worth noting that Azerbaijan is represented by two players in the Challenge section of the tournament – Eltaj Safarli and Mahammad Muradli. The first-round matches in their division will be played today.
The international tournament, featuring participants from six countries, will conclude on June 15.
