Azerbaijani chess players concluded the Championship of Turkic-Speaking States held in Astana, Kazakhstan, with two gold and one bronze medals.
Offsideplus.az reports that the tournament was organized across three categories: men's, women's, and Under-16 teams.
The women's national team, comprising Ulviyya Fataliyeva, Gunay Mammadzada, Govhar Beydullayeva, Khanim Balajayeva, and Gulnar Mammadova, secured four wins and two draws in six matches. Gathering 10 points, the squad captained by Ilaha Kadimova finished the tournament in first place. The host nation Kazakhstan took second, while Uzbekistan claimed the third spot.
The U16 team, consisting of Khagan Ahmad, Shamsi Karakhanov, Pasham Alizada, and Lala Huseynova, secured five wins in six rounds. Collecting a total of 10 points, the Azerbaijani U16 team captained by Farid Abbasov captured the gold medal. The silver and bronze medals went to Kazakhstan's first and second teams, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Azerbaijani men's chess team finished the tournament with a bronze medal. The squad, featuring Ahmad Ahmadzada, Misratdin Iskandarov, Khazar Babazada, Shiroglan Talibov, and Murad Ibrahimli, achieved three victories in six rounds. Gathering 7 points, the Azerbaijani men's collective settled for third place.
With these results, Azerbaijani chess players wrapped up the tournament of Turkic-speaking nations with an overall tally of 2 gold and 1 bronze medals.
