The closing ceremony of the "Baku Open-2026" International Chess Festival has taken place.

Offsideplus.az reports that the event was attended by the President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation (ACF) Mahir Mammadov, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, and other officials, who emphasized the tournament's international significance.

The winners were also honored during the closing ceremony. In the main competition (Group A), Iran’s Movahed Sina claimed the championship for the second time in his career, followed by India’s Ajay Santhosh in second place, and Azerbaijan’s Khazar Babazada in third.

In the women's competition, Polina Shuvalova (FIDE) took first place, with Lu Miaoyi (China) and Ekaterina Goltseva (FIDE) finishing second and third, respectively. In Group B, Mehriban Ahmadli and Zaur Bayramov secured gold medals, while 10-year-old Nurlan Ganizada emerged as the winner in Group C. Meanwhile, Emin Novruzov triumphed in the Azerbaijan Veteran Chess Championship.

Special awards were presented to the oldest participant, 91-year-old Sharail Avazov, and the youngest, 6-year-old Gular Jamalli.

It should be noted that the festival featured a total prize fund of 50,000 USD.
