In the poll conducted by the Sports Research Center (SRC) among sports journalists on the "Winners of the Year - 2020" project, "Karabakh" was named FIGHTING TEAM OF THE YEAR, and in the poll among footballers, the team's midfielder Abdullah Zubir was named footballer of the 2019/2020 season.
The awarding ceremony of both awards took place today in the club's office, Offsideplus.az reports.
The event was attended by Karabakh director Emrah Celikel and the team's head coach Gurban Gurbanov. He said that when Zubir was selected as the player of the season, it was decided to organize the award at a more appropriate time, as the Tovuz battles took place.
At the same time, in 2020, the number of sports competitions due to the pandemic has significantly decreased, some have been postponed, and most have been canceled. On the other hand, in connection with the Great Patriotic War, everyone turned their attention to the front line. More than 500 representatives of the sports community, athletes and football players, sports journalists took part in the war, more than 50 of them were martyrs and veterans. The sports community was also active in the rear and provided material and moral support to our Army. Karabakh was especially active in this regard. Due to the military ban imposed by UEFA on the organization of international matches in Baku due to the military situation, along with the Azerbaijani national team, the club had to play home games in the group stage of the Europa League abroad - in brotherly Turkey.
E.Mammadov said that the project is dedicated to this success due to the fact that the biggest winner of the year is the Azerbaijani Army. He reminded that he was selected from the donors and the winners were determined in the end. He noted that they could not hold an award ceremony due to the quarantine regime, and announced the names of the winners online.
Saying he liked the idea, Gurban Gurbanov congratulated our army on the great victory. He said that the martyrs who died for the Motherland rose to a height that not everyone could, and congratulated the veterans. The head coach stressed that despite all the difficulties, the club's management aims to always keep the name "Karabakh" high and did their best in this direction.
Calling the presence of martyrs among the winners an objective choice, Gurbanov spoke about the heroism of the martyr Jabrayil Dovletzade, who was elected FIGHTER ATHLETE OF THE YEAR. The head coach said he would visit Dovletzade's family in the near future.
Then the awards were presented. As Zubir is not in the country due to the break in the Azerbaijani Premier League, Gurban Gurbanov received a plaque for both the player of the season and the FIGHTING TEAM OF THE YEAR.
