Today, an official presentation ceremony was held to mark Baku’s designation as the “World Capital of Sports” for 2026.

According to Offsideplus.az, the event took place at the Baku City Executive Authority. The ceremony was attended by President of the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation (ACES) Gian Francesco Lupattelli, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan Farid Gayibov, Head of the Baku City Executive Authority Eldar Azizov, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzade, and other officials.

Eldar Azizov officially opened the event, after which Farid Gayibov shared his remarks.

“Today, we are officially presenting to Baku the symbolic plaque that was brought from Monaco to this city,” ACES President Lupattelli stated.
