Azerbaijani judokas finished the first day of the Grand Slam tournament in Paris, France, with two medals.
According to Offsideplus.az, Balabay Aghayev (60 kg) secured the gold medal. The 27-year-old athlete defeated Dilshot Khalmatov of Ukraine in the final.
Meanwhile, Ruslan Pashayev (66 kg) earned a bronze medal for the team.
In the same weight category, Nazir Talibov (66 kg) lost to Miguel Gago (Portugal) in the round of 32.
The Grand Slam is scheduled to conclude on February 8. Azerbaijan is represented by eight judokas in the competition.
