Who is the head coach who wants to stop our Premier League?
The 12th round of the Premier League "disappeared" yesterday, when the PFL postponed the match Qarabag - Gabala due to a coronavirus pandemic. Three days ago, the matches "Sabah" - "Neftchi", "Keshla" - "Sabail", as well as "Zira" - "Sumgayit" scheduled for today were canceled.
According to Offsideplus.az, there is no exact information on when the tour will take place. PFL spokesman Allan Shahgeldiyevtold futbolpress that no new dates have been set yet, and the future of the championship will depend on the number of infections and decisions on the coronavirus in the country.
We wondered what the head coaches of our clubs thought about this silent pandemic, in which our masks were pulled up. How do the head coaches view the suspension of the championship, given the difficulties created by the coronavirus at the moment?
Our attempt to find out the views of Gurban Gurbanov, who is currently infected with the coronavirus and continues to be examined, was to no avail. Yusif Hussein, the club's deputy spokesman, said we would have to wait for the next post-match press conference to ask the head coach a question.
Every door we knocked on in the name of learning the approach of coaches like Rashad Sadigov and Aykhan Abbasov , together with their isolated stadiums, was closed to us.
Other head coaches said in recent days that they were against the suspension of the championship. Among these names, only Vicente Gomez, who leads the "Sabah" team, openly stated his agreement to suspend the championship.
Here are the statements made by the head coaches of the Azerbaijani Premier League clubs regarding the suspension of the championship during the pandemic:
Vicente Gomez ("Sabah"): "I do not have enough information to make such a decision. I believe that those responsible for this work have more information in this regard and therefore will make a better decision. However, based on the current situation and the information we have, I think it is more expedient to stop the championship now and continue it next year. Given that the first half of the championship will end on December 20 and there will be a break, it would be more expedient to announce a break now. I hope that the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic will improve in February, everything will be fine, and then it will be possible to continue the championship in a normal way.
Aftandil Hajiyev ("Sabail"): "We would like it to continue, but in all cases, health is more important than anything. We believe that we will be able to finish the rest of our games this month."
Elmar Bakhshiyev (Gabala): As a club, we want the championship to continue. That's why we are in favor of stopping once. It is very difficult to stay without football - both for the players and for us coaches. We do not want to fall into that situation again. Of course, the best option is to finish the championship. As a club, we could stop. In that match with "Sumgayit" we had more than 7 - 8 players who were out of the team due to the virus. But as a club, we decided that we should not procrastinate, but continue with the players we have. If we had 12-13 players then, we would like to continue our performance (Sport24).
Samir Abasov (Neftchi): "If the championship is suspended, it will have consequences. For example, tomorrow they will say that we will hold the championship for 15 days. There is no guarantee after 15 days. If the situation does not improve in 15 days, the period may be extended again. There are concrete shortcomings. We can't build our business. In particular, we forget about training, games, we are fighting the virus, the situation. Everyone is suffering. The situation is not really good "(Sportinfo).
Yunis Huseynov (“Keshla”): “It will be better if we finish playing. Hopefully, by the end of this month, the players will recover, the number of infections will decrease, and all teams will start training in January and prepare better. But the first is health. The health of the players was more important. Everyone has a family and children. If the disease increases, it will be worse if they infect their families with the virus. I think these three rounds can be postponed to next year's championship. But even now, there is a one-month break for the teams. Everyone will start training on January 5. Of course, I hope everything goes well. In that case, you are stuck between the two. It was better if it was held, but the main thing was health ”(Sport24).
